LIVE music spanning everything from Bach to Britney Spears was performed, as staff and students in Liskeard staged their Christmas concert.
While many schools cancelled their concerts during the festive season, Liskeard decided to go ahead, following all Government protocols, and gave the enthusiastic audience a great evening.
Two harp soloists, a staff choir, soloists of all ages, ensembles and bands were among the 55 performers to get on stage.
“It was a much-needed celebration of music, as it had been two years since the last live public performance,” said a school spokesperson.
“It was a fitting way to end the year on a high after the challenges faced, and an opportunity to show off the new ensembles that had been created since the beginning of September.
“Mark Bond and Jane Warwick, who lead Music at the school, commented that the success of the evening was a much-needed release for staff, students, and parents alike.”
The Music Department at the school have created many new ensembles since September. Previous groups had been dissolved due to the pandemic, and through older students leaving.
Showcasing their talents during the concert were the new Soul Band, the Year 7 and 8 instrumental group, a Key Stage 3 singing group, Year 11 Singers, Year 10 and 11 GCSE Music groups and Palm Springs (6th Form group).
The concert ended on a poignant note with student and staff singers joining in one voice to perform the beautiful ‘Boy Child’.
“Music at Liskeard School continues to flourish despite the pandemic,” says the school.
“The appetite for creativity has never been stronger, and students are already looking forward to the Easter Concert in 2022!
“No doubt there will be even more ensembles by then, creating both excellent opportunities and memories to cherish.”Look out for more photos from the concert evening in a forthcoming edition of The Cornish Times!
