CHILDREN went back in time to learn about life in the Second World War. Pupils from Hillfort Primary School in Liskeard arrived at the town's railway station in a vintage coach as part of their studies.
At the station, they took part in a re-enactment of wartime evacuees being placed with local families.
Liskeard and District Museum has been involved with the project. Curator Anna Monks said that evacuees' memories were used to help the children imagine the scene. The visit to the station was organised with the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership and rail company First Great Western.
Rebecca Catterall, from the partnership, said: 'Almost three million children were evacuated in the first four days of September 1939. Most of them would have travelled long distances to rural stations, such as Liskeard, by train.'
