BBC Children in Need has announced that it has awarded new grants totalling £81,935 to three projects working with disadvantaged children and young people in Cornwall.
One project which has been awarded funding is at Callywith College in Bodmin. The college will use a three-year grant of £23,985 to provide a range of physical activity opportunities for young people. Funding will aim to improve their overall mental wellbeing, increase resilience, improve self-esteem and increase participants’ knowledge of how to manage their own mental health.
Another of the organisations to benefit is 4Elements CIC in Pool, near Redruth, which is receiving a three-year grant of £30,000 to provide music and media workshops for young people in the local community. Funding will encourage attendees to build positive relationships with their peers, increase emotional resilience and help to raise aspirations.
Elsewhere, Cornwall Music Service Trust in Truro will use funding of £27,950 to provide music therapy sessions to children and young people living with life-threatening health issues. Funding will help to provide an environment where participants can increase self-esteem, improve emotional wellbeing and reduce isolation in the community.
