Children will join voices with two adult choirs this evening in an uplifting concert to celebrate Advent.

The event at St Martin’s Church in Liskeard will start at 7pm and proceeds will support the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Singing during the concert will be the Caradon Youth Choir, the Tamar Valley Male Voice Choir and the St Martin’s Church Choir.

The Caradon Youth Choir, now in its fourth year, has gone from strength to strength, say its directors Kate Rogers and Nic Early.

The group of 30 youngsters has recently expanded to form the Caradon Youth Chamber Choir. This older section performs an exciting range of pieces from John Rutter to Karl Jenkins, Taize chants to musical theatre.

However, all the young singers in the choir, who range in age from five to 18, are stretched by high expectations.

‘They always rise to meet those expectations,’ says Kate.

‘Having worked with a number of adult choirs, I can honestly say these amazing young people rehearse and perform beyond their years.’

Sunday’s concert will be uplifting and reflective and will explore the four themes of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.

Nic is encouraging everyone to come along to the concert - especially if they have not yet experienced St Martin’s Church since the building was reordered.

‘This is a beautiful church and a really brilliant performance space now. It has comfortable seating, a unique ambience and amazing acoustic.’
