Burns Night was celebrated at Saltash Masonic hall on Saturday evening, the event organised by the ladies of Saltash Masonic Essa lodge who distributed cheques to various organisations.

Mrs Leslie Stevens, chairman of the Ladies committee, welcomed guests. The cheques were presented by former chairman, Rachel Essam, to Arthritis Care (£50), Plympton Girls' brigade (£50), Cornwall Air Ambulance (£50), and the Renal Unit at Derriford (£50). Last year the Ladies also sent a cheque to the Mermaid appeal for £150, as well as £226 to the Children's Hospice and £50 to Wesley Youth for their trip to Zimbabwe.

Peter Thornton was accordionist for the evening and played in the haggis, carried by Jim Ross. A total of £160 was raised during the evening towards this year's charities.
