The Fire and Rescue Service is promoting the importance of smoke alarms in a 'Fire Kills' campaign to coincide with the clocks going back an hour to Greenwich Mean Time at 2am on Sunday.
The 'Tick, Tock, Test' is a reminder to encourage people to check their smoke alarms or get some installed when they adjust their clocks. Calling smoke the 'silent killer', the fire service says it is responsible for more than half the deaths in accidental fires in the home.
'A working smoke alarm can give the wake-up call needed to escape because smoke will not – it will leave you for dead' is the warning the service has issued.
