A chance to walk the new A38 Dobwalls bypass and raise money for local charities at the same time is on offer next month. The event takes place on Sunday, August 10, and, as well as helping the nominated charities, participants will also have the opportunity to raise money for their favourite good causes. The walk has been organised by the Lions Club and Rotary Club, with the Highways Agency and contractors Interserve. Entry fees, after costs, will be donated to the Children's Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal, Cornwall Air Ambulance, ShelterBox and Shelter – the charity for homeless people. Money Those taking part in the three mile walk will also receive a sponsorship form to raise money for their own favourite causes. Highways Agency project manager Andrew Alcorn said: 'This is a unique opportunity for people in Cornwall to walk the route of the new road which will make such a difference to the county by improving the quality of life for local residents and reducing journey times. Fantastic 'I hope as many people as possible will take part in this event, have a fantastic time and raise a lot of money for these important charities.' Liskeard Lions president Peter Andrew said: 'Liskeard Lions are pleased to be assisting with the running of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk the new road. We would also like to thank the Highways Agency and Interserve for allowing us to hold this event.' Traffic John Mellor, from the Rotary Club of Liskeard and Looe, said he and his colleagues were also delighted to be able to help the people of Dobwalls and the local area to see the new Dobwalls bypass from a walker's perspective, before the road is open to traffic. 'The opening of the bypass is an important milestone for the people of Dobwalls, as the village can become a whole community again, rather than one divided by the A38 trunk road.' Application forms are available by email at dobwalls.bypass@ interserveps.com or by telephoning Jon Mitchell on 01579 326 350.
