The Carlsberg South West Peninsula League will be appointing a new chairman at next year's AGM, after the news that Bob Bell will be retiring at the end of the season.
It was thanks to Bell's tireless efforts that the country's youngest League was established.
People talked about it for years, but he was the first to show that actions speak louder than words.
Bell, who lives at Crafthole, made his intentions clear at the recent Board meeting and decided to make it public when he issued the following statement: 'I wish to announce that I will not be standing for re-election as chairman of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.
'It has been a great honour to have been your chairman for the past ten years in the South Western and South West Peninsula Leagues. I should like to thank the countless people who have supported, encouraged and befriended me since 1963 when I first became involved in football at this level as a player, then later as a manager, a club secretary and finally as a League officer.
'This applies particularly to my fellow officers, past and present, to the current Board members of the South West Peninsula League and to all in clubs with whom it has been my privilege to be associated. I wish you all, health, happiness and success.
'It is my fervent wish that the Peninsula League and its member clubs go from strength to, and I believe this will be best achieved by you electing a new chairman who will bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and drive to the role. I am sure my successor will receive the same excellent level of support I have.'
