Saltash Town Council has discussed what would be appropriate on the Carkeel Roundabout after the major works scheduled to start in the autumn are completed. Acknowledging what is chosen will have to be acceptable to Cornwall Highways, a suggestion was made that a gig boat could be placed there. Cllr Jean Dent said such a feature would have a lower maintenance cost than floral displays. Meanwhile, councillors heard that at a Saturday morning session in Fore Street, when two councillors were available to take questions from residents, the main concern was the lack of public toilets. Cllr Dent and Cllr David Yates said the toilets in Belle Vue car park have now been refurbished with steel doors fitted, with the same at Waterside, although some of the facilities there were not considered fit for purpose and would need to be re-designed. In addition, councillors agreed to make awards from the Community Chest Fund. These were: £937.60 to Saltash Sailing Club for four new sails; £850 to the Tamar Protection Society for Elliots; £600 to Saltash Chamber of Commerce for the Love Saltash Festival; and £1,512 for Saltash Regatta.
