Saltash Heritage Museum and Local History Centre welcomed a film crew from the Canadian version of the TV programme Who Do You Think You Are. Canadian programme director Scott Harper and celebrity comedian Scott Thompson flew in from Toronto to spend the day at the museum and later St Nicholas and St Faith Church where they were greeted by Canon Richard Maynard. Mr Thompson is a descendent of James Henry Hallett, who was baptised in St Nicholas and St Faith Church in July, 1829. James was the eldest son of John and Sarah Hallett and had two younger brothers, William and Henry George. James's father John was a mariner, and died in 1837, aged only 30. The family lived in lower Fore Street and the house is still there today and the film crew took several shots inside and outside the house. James Henry Hallett married Catherine Dunsford and they had a son, John before emigrating to Canada in 1857. James later became a hotel keeper in Canada, and he and Catherine had three more children. Mr Thompson was very interested in Saltash and to know what the town was like before the building of the Royal Albert Bridge. Visiting the museum, he studied documents relating to his relatives. Scott is well known on Canadian television and has also appeared on British television and in the film Micky Blue Eyes. Dave Kent, curator of Saltash Museum, and Liz Asprey, secretary of Saltash Heritage, met Scott and the film crew and took them to the various locations during the day. Now Mr Thompson would like to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related to him. If you think you are, call Saltash Museum on (01752) 848466 Saturdays 10am-1pm or Wednesday afternoons.
