BBC1’s first TV Superstar, Muffin the Mule, has announced the launch of his own YouTube channel, 70 years on from his debut on the channel in 1946. The move will enable viewers to access Muffin on demand as well as to upload their own appreciation videos.
Talking about the move, Muffin is said to have said: ’It’s important that old hoofers, like myself and Brucie, keep ourselves relevant and communicating through modern means. This new channel will enable me to keep in touch with my fans as well as to share happy memories with them.
Muffin’s first missive to fans is a request for a new accompanist: ’When I first had my TV series I worked with a lovely lady called Annette Mills,’ he recalls, ’she would accompany me on the piano and sing along. I’m currently planning for my anniversary celebrations, which will take place at Pennywell Farm in Devon later this year, and am keen to find someone to join me for that performance.’
Musicians of all disciplines are invited to audition by uploading a video of themselves playing the Muffin theme tune [ably demonstrated by David Attenborough here:http://bit.ly/1QmukRB] and sending a link to it via a message on Muffin’s channel. The best entrants will be featured on the site and viewers encouraged to vote for their favourite.
