Visitors to some of Cornwall’s most iconic beauty spots are being reminded to think before they flush this summer.

Colourful posters urging loo users to flush only the 3Ps – pee, paper and poo – are being displayed on the back of public toilet doors at some of Cornwall’s most popular and Blue Flag beaches.

Cornwall Council and South West Water have teamed up to produce and install the ‘Love Your Loo’ posters as part of the BeachWise partnership to promote the South West’s beautiful beaches and clean bathing waters.

The initiative is to remind beach-goers that everyone has a part to play to prevent sewer blockages and flooding, which can be caused by people inappropriately flushing baby wipes, hygiene wipes, moist toilet tissue, cleaning wipes, cleansing pads and sanitary products.

Alan Hyde, South West Water’s Head of Community Relations, said: ‘Every year we deal with around 8,500 blocked sewers across our region. Blocked sewers can cause flooding and pollution, which we all want to avoid at our beaches and beauty spots.

‘The Love Your Loo campaign encourages everyone to play their part in protecting their local environment by only flushing pee, paper and poo.’
