CALLYWITH College in Bodmin is preparing to welcome potential future students at an open event later this month.
On Thursday, April 28, 5pm-8pm, the college will be holding an open event, offering prospective A Level and Level 3 vocational students the chance to meet the college’s staff and students and explore everything the college has to offer.
The open event will provide future students the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art campus and facilities, talk to the teaching staff about the wide choice of courses on offer and get first-hand experience of what learning and life is like from current students.
The College’s friendly support staff will also be available to help visitors with queries on the application process, transport, learning and personal support and more.
Callywith Principal Jon Grey said he was delighted to be able to open the campus to the public once again: “Our open events are a great opportunity to discover more about the College, to see our stunning campus and, most importantly, to talk to our exceptional staff and students about the wide range of A Level and vocational courses in addition to all the extra-curricular opportunities on offer.
“If you’re deciding where to study after your GCSEs, we would love to meet you and show you why Callywith College was ranked as the best sixth-form in England for student achievement and rated Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted in 2020.”
Open day visitors will be able to experience a variety of interactive activities and demonstrations, including printmaking workshops in the art department and experiments in the science department, as well as finding out more about the College from the Principal in the College’s Lecture Theatre at 6pm.
The College’s transport partner, GoCornwall, will also be on-site to discuss the extensive, bespoke transport network that provides students with easy access to outstanding education from all over Cornwall and South Devon.
A college spokesperson said: “For September 2022, due to demand from prospective students and a surge in growth, the College expanded its offer of the widest choice of A Levels and Level 2 and 3 vocational courses in North and East Cornwall by adding four new courses, including Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services Diploma, Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) and A Level equivalents - Level 3 Extended Certificate in IT, Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care and Applied Diploma in Criminology. Students will be able to find out more and apply for all courses and be interviewed on the day in the College’s Application Stations in T016 and T017 in Temple building.”
The open event comes after two successful years that saw the College-rated Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted in January 2020, ranked as the top sixth-form college nationally for Qualification Achievement Rate and topping local league tables for A Level results in Spring 2020.
In addition, the College was shortlisted for 2 National Beacon Awards by the Association of Colleges in 2021 and featured in The Sunday Times Top 20 “Best sixth form colleges in England 2022”, cementing Callywith College as one of the best providers of 16-19 education locally and nationally.
