Fund raising at
St Mary's Church
THE fund raising committee of St Mary's Church, Callington, have been hard at work recently with two events.
'According to Luke', written by Steve Dawe, a member of St Mary's, was performed in the church on Good Friday and this event raised approximately £520.
On Saturday, April 13, a well-attended auction was held in the town hall and a sum of £1,700 was raised and thanks must go to the auctioneer, Lewis Bond.
The money will go towards the Improvement Fund and St Mary's would like to thank everyone who supported them.
Two nights to remember
Two memorable evenings were held at The Cross House, Metherell, when Callington Rotary Club held their weekly luncheon fellowship.
On Wednesday, April 10, David Morris, Cornwall Regional Co-ordinator for Children's Hospice South West, was guest speaker of Rotarian Graham Massey.
Mr Morris outlined the history of Little Bridge House at Barnstaple, the only Childrens Hospice in the South West.
Covering the area Bristol to Penzance, homely and specialist care free of charge is provided to patients and their families for critical conditions.
With little support from public funds the one million pound running costs are provided by private benefactors.
Graham Massey's sister, Norma Crocker, was introduced to the club with an outstanding record of local fundraising through Tamar Valley Friends. Graham, whose President's year commences in July, has named this caring children's hospice as his chosen charity.
On the following Wednesday, April 17, current Rotary President Colin Lake introduced Amizade, a local singing group who gave an outstanding performance.
The group of four, Jo and her sister Laura Browning, and Steph and her sister Gemma Lumley, who also played piano, possess exceptional talent. They are taking their music to France in May, and Germany in July, where audiences are in for a treat.
Concluding the night, members were reduced to side-splitting laughter by a dialogue given by Bruce Brown and Andrew Wilson based on a misunderstanding between a fictitious hotel guest and the hotel management and staff.
