Police hours

are revised

CALLINGTON Police Station's opening hours have been discussed as a result of feedback from recent consultation undertaken by the council.

Following a lengthy consultation with the police the final decision has revised hours will be: Monday and Tuesday from 9am until 2pm and 3pm until 5pm. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am until 2pm and 3pm until 6pm. Saturday, as previously, the station will be closed.

The station will have civilian inquiry officers behind the desk to take documentation details during these times.

Space talk at

Rotary Club

CALLINGTON Rotary Club met on Wednesday at The Bulls Head. The guest speaker was Mike Grocott, Callington Community College physics teacher, accompanied by two first year 6th form students, Beckie Hooper and Beckie Hernandez.

Through Mr Grocott's involvement via the International Space School Educational Trust, he has secured the college's direct contact with the NASA Space Project, to an an extent that two students, of few in the whole country, will go on an education visit to America from Callington College, covering visits to Johnson and Kennedy Space Centres.

Twenty four students applied for the two places and the two Beckies were representatives of the applicants and gave members a presentation of the criteria for selection and slides of last year's successful students with NASA personnel.

All the applicants were currently engaged in fund raising, prior to the final selection of the successful two, for the benefit of the overall project.

Past president, Ton Peirson, thanked the two Beckies for their presentation and also Mike Grocott for his enthusiasm and efforts.

Rev Ann elected

ELSIE Hope presided at Callington United Sisterhood's recent meeting.

Happy thoughts were read by Carrie Duance, Elsie Hope and Vida Pearce.

The speaker was Mrs Jerrett, the subject of her talk being 'Women of the Bible'. Pianist was Rena Wooldridge and tea and biscuits were served by Edie Pridham and Jean Burnard.

At the annual meeting the Rev Ann Curnow was elected as the president for the coming year. All other officers were re-elected.

The returning president, Elsie Trevorrow, was thanked for her years as President.

Women's Fellowship

Joyce Parr as Chairman welcomed the ladies to the November meeting of St. Mary's Church Women's Fellowship. Margaret Rubery read the report of the October meeting then presented cards to Chris Bristow and Barbara Clayton who celebrate birthdays in November. Chris Bristow read Psalm 8 and a hymn was sung. The speaker was Mr. Ted Clark who showed a film of the work of the RNLI and also spoke about the various lifeboat stations in Cornwall. Sue Oakes gave the vote of thanks and the ladies then had the opportunity to purchase items from the RNLI sales table run by Janet Clark.

The Tea Hostess was Joyce Warren, assisted by several volunteers. Lillian Parker, whose arrangement contained poppies and forget-me-nots, an appropriate theme for November, won the flower arrangement in an apple competition, The next meeting on the 11 December will be the Christmas party.

Christmas Bazaar.

St Mary's Church will be holding a Christmas Bazaar at the Town Hall, Callington tonight, Friday December 1, at 6pm.

Church concert

On Saturday December 2 Callington Community College's Scratch Orchestra and Callington Primary School Choir will be performing in concert at St. Mary's Church, at 7 p.m. Tickets available on the door, Adults £2.50 and Children £1.50.

Baptism at St Mary's

AT the increasingly popular Parish Communion and Healing Service at St. Mary's Church, on Sunday 26 November, two members of the Youth Group, sisters Jenny and Beth Julian, were baptised.

Following the baptisms Katy Rumbold, Cara Whitting and Jane Richardson sang 'Girl of God' to welcome Jenny and Beth into the Fellowship.

In the evening at the Praise Service the Rev Roger Medley spoke of the work of SAMS, the South American Missionary Society.

Through slides and a talk he told of his experiences as a missionary in Argentina at Mision La Paz where he helped the indigenous Indians to farm and learn other trades in order to protect and support themselves.

The work of SAMS is still very much needed today and the collection was given to this Society.

Prim Raf award win

AT the Cornwall Drama Assocciation annual awards evening held at the Ponsmere Hotel in Perranporth the Callington Drama and Arts society's (PRIM-RAF) entry Morwenna and the Legend of Kit Hill won two major awards in the musical section.

The show, written by Alex Ward, was performed earlier in the year and delighted all those who saw it.

Sara Moir won the Roy Crosley awards for " an outstanding performance by a young actor\actress under the age of 21" for her role as ~Morwenna and the second award was won by Sandra Dignand for "best actress" for her role as Penny Wadge.
