Christmas fair

on Saturday

A CHRISTMAS art and craft fair is being held on Saturday November 18 at Callington Town Hall as an alternative for those who do not wish to travel to Plymouth to buy gifts.

The fair will be open from 10am until 1pm where there will be plenty of unique, unusual and interesting items on display at reasonable prices, including, decorated flower pots, painted glass, wood turning, ceramics, hand painted cards, crystals, needlecraft and knitwear, jewellery, toys and much more. Refreshments will be served and there will be a homemade cake stall raising money for the Primrose Appeal.

Equipment delivered

CALLINGTON sports centre has taken delivery of £30,000 worth of new fitness equipment.

The managers of the centre, D C Leisure Management Ltd, have supported the bid by Callington community college for a sports college, by the provision of the equipment - which will be used by students and the community as a whole.

The state of the art items replace existing cardio-vascular equipment. A number of new initiatives have also recently been introduced into the centre with a weight loss programme being run by Tracey Moxham, the centre's fitness manager, and Body Combat an exercise class which mirrors some of the moves found in martial arts but without contact

Barn proposal

on the agenda

A PROPOSAL to convert a redundant barn at Callington to a dwelling was due to be debated by members of Caradon council's planning control committee (west) last night (Thursday).

The application, by Mr M Bunkum, is for a barn at Lower Crift. Planning officers, in their report to councillors, said the residential conversion has been designed sympathetically and incorporates a barn owl and bats access within the roof. It provides a three bedroomed dwelling with sleeping accommodation on the ground floor.

The report added that it has been argued, and accepted, that the barn would not be appropriate for use for commercial purpose as the location has inappropriate narrow access lanes. Officers recommended approval.

Sisterhood meeting

AT the meeting of Callington United Sisterhood the meeting was chaired by Mrs Vida Pearce. Happy Thoughts were read by Carrie Duance, Ida Duke, Irene Brook and Elsie Trevorrow. The speaker was Mr N Helme who spoke on the experiences of entertaining American students.

Pianist was Elsie Trevorrow and tea was served by Rena and Elsie Wooldridge.
