Elsie in the chair

The recent meeting of Callington United Sisterhood was chaired by Elsie Trevorrow. Happy thoughts were read by Carrie Duance, Margaret Brough, Audrey Horsham and Vida Pearce.

The speaker was Rev Fuller. Pianist for the meeting was Rena Wooldridge and tea was served by Carrie Duance and Joyce Bartram.

The following week the chair was taken by Elsie Hope. Happy thoughts were read by Margaret Brough, Audrey Horsham, Winnie Trebilcock and Vida Pearce. The speaker was Eileen Bond who also sang a solo accompanied by the pianist Audrey Horsham. Tea and biscuits were served by Edie Pridham and Barbara Paynter.

Sisterhood

At the latest meeting Mrs Vida Pearce presided. Happy thoughts were read by Margaret Brough on singing, Win Trebilcock on all things bright and beautiful and Vida Pearce of As his mother used to do.

The guest speaker, Rev Martin Smith, led prayers and gave a talk on the broad and narrow ways; the broad way leading to death and damnation and the narrow way leading to salvation.

The pianist was Mrs Elsie Trevorrow and tea was served by Rena and Eileen Wooldridge.

Rev Gill was speaker

A guild meeting was recently held at Callington Methodist church. The speaker, Rev Gill Lonsdale talked about the ordination of women into the Church of England.

Miss L. James was in the chair and Miss E Wooldridge played for the hymns. Tea and biscuits were served by Mrs J Shaw and Mrs M Northcott at the end of the meeting. The speaker next week will be Captain David Swales from the Church Army.

Inspirational arrangements

Callington Flower Arrangement Group's recent meeting in the Town Hall saw Mr Tom Burn from Plymouth demonstrating his floristry skills in 'Flowers for all occasions'.

He used flowers from all around the world to show the members designs for different celebrations. His first design was an orchid buttonhole which he presented to the Chairman.

The next meeting is on March 15 at 7.15pm in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall where Mrs Winston from Launceston will demonstrate 'Vision of the future'.

Torch Fellowship

Mrs Trudy Price presided over the recent Callington Torch Fellowship meeting at The Mustard Seed Church. The speaker was Mrs Iris Wilson who spoke on the relevance of the Psalms to life's experiences today. The organist was Mrs K Veal and tea was served by Mesdames B Dawe, J Todd and J Hutchings.

Prim Raf's Puss in Boots

Callington Prim Raf's latest production, Puss in Boots, has already started showing at the Prim Raf theatre, Biscombes Lane in Callington.

'Puss in Boots' is written and produced by Carole Eager.

Tickets are available from Noakes and Habermehl in Callington and the show goes on again tonight, Friday, February 25 and Saturday February 26 including a matinee on February 26.

Event for cats

The Callington and district branch of The Cats Protection have their monthly fund raising event booked for Saturday March 4 at Liskeard Long Rooms, running from 9am until 1pm. Entry to the event is free but donations of cat food are always welcome. For more information contact Val on 01579 363192.
