COUNTY DIVISION ONE Callington v Troon WHEN Callington are bad they are bad, and this was one of those occasions as they went down by 117 runs at home to Troon. It was Callington's first game for three weeks, due to rain cancellations, and they certainly looked rusty. After Troon decided to bat, Callington enjoyed some early success, as Jim Shorten took out professional James Bryant and Matt Rowe, before a silly mix-up left Gavin Tregenza run out without facing a ball. This left the visitors with three men down and only 14 runs on the board. However, Aussie Ben McPhee, Damian Trease (18) and Mark Jenkin (27) saw Troon back on course at 139 for five. McPhee went on to make a hard-earned 65 from 108 balls, as Troon made 194 for nine, which was going to take some chasing on a low, slow track. Actually, Callington were Troon's second highest contributor as they gave away 42 extras, including 21 wides. Shorten and Luke Davis took three wickets apiece. The Callington reply was dismal in the extreme, and Andy Shorten, with 28, was the only batsman to make double figures. The chase was always going to be difficult, but Callington needed someone like McPhee to stay there and dig in, but no-one showed enough spirit to play that role. Troon's bowlers did well and they fielded enthusiastically, but they were never under pressure. Young spinner Mark Jenkin took three for 10 and captain Steve Eddy three for 15 as Callington were dismissed in the 34th over.
