Callington Town Council met this week for their first meeting of the new century.

Cycle racks

There may soon be cycle racks for the pushbikers of Callington to leave their bikes secure after complaints from the local youth club that bikes have been vandalised and stolen.

The arrival of the cycle racks does depend on funding but the town councillors have been told issue looks promising.

Council objectives

The town council will be meeting soon to discuss and set its aims and objectives.

The council has limited jurisdiction but there may be some 'long term' issues that might be addressed.

At the suggestion of Councillor Jeremy Gist, it was agreed at the recent council meeting that each committee of the council should discuss aims and objectives and bring the issue back before the full council at a later date.

Illegal parking

Members have been told of a further incident regarding the illegal parking along Church Street.

Recently the fire engine, returning from a call, was unable to proceed down the street. It stayed in the road with its lights and sirens going until the owners of the cars came out of the local Spar shop and moved them.

Measures will soon be taken by the police and traffic wardens to prevent such incidents occurring again.

Dupath parking

Dupath Road has again been the site of motorists parking illegally

P. C. Ricky Morris advised the council at its recent meeting that the police could charge the drivers for driving on pavements but not for parking on them.

Caradon County Council has refused the suggestion of block bookings for students of Duchy College in the pay and display car park although Mr Parsons, the principal of the college has been receptive to the idea.

The next Town Council 'surgery' to discuss any queries that the public may have is scheduled for February 19 at the Town Hall.
