St Blazey

CALLINGTON avenged their recent defeat by St Blazey with a fabulous team effort to see them win by two wickets.

On being inserted Mathew Bailey and Nick Carter snr added 41 in eleven overs before Bailey fell to Simon Farris for 30. Three balls later Farris removed Nick Carter for a duck and with Trevor Collins belying his years with a magnificent diving catch St Blazey suddenly collapsed. Graeme Murray nipped in with two wickets and at 75-7 things looked bleak for St Blazey.

Steve Bailey and John Carter then added 34 in contrasting styles and St Blazey finally finished on 128 when Carter went for 27. All the Callington bowlers chipped in with wickets but Farris with 3-23 was the pick.

Callington opening saga pair of Collins and Dave Robertson added 43 before both fell to Carter jnr in successive overs for 15 & 21 respectively. Out of form ex first teamer Andy Hocking and Rob Legg then took the game to St Blazey.

They added 40 in 10 overs before Legg was caught by Matt Harvey as he was walking in after retrieving the previous ball from the boundary. When Skipper Peter Tancock was caught and bowled by Carter jnr, Callington at 109-4 then had England jitters. Hocking was next to go for 27 and when Carter jnr finished his 16 over, having taken 6-33, Callington were struggling on 122-8. Luckily though through all this carnage Graeme Murray was still standing tall. He hit two boundaries in four balls to win the game for Callington, giving them a valuable 19 points in their efforts to climb the table.
