TORPOINT Players presented Grimley and Gershwin to almost full houses at Torpoint Town Hall over three evenings last week. The audience were seated café style, with flowers decorating the tables. The evening opened with popular songs by Gershwin. This was followed by the first of two one-act plays called Last Tango in Little Grimley. Based on a failing amateur dramatics society in a small village hall, the sparse scene was set. The annual meeting was about to start, with all four members of the society present. With no audiences and no money coming in, the society was about to fold, until the chairman came up with the idea of sex selling tickets! The others were aghast until they realised that by telling the local village gossip and advertising that their next play was for adults only and involved scenes of nudity, tickets would sell - even if these things did not happen. During the interlude, the cast again sang more favourite Gershwin songs, before the second play, called Last Panto in Little Grimley. This comedy was similar in some respects to the first play, but with a panto theme. The cast was, again, excellent, with the final curtain bringing loud applause. During the supper, Pam and Paul Adams gave more magical renderings on harp and mandolin. The evening concluded with a second hilarious programme by David Prowse. The twinners had a most enjoyable evening, made possible with the help of their special guests and the hard work of the entertainments committee. More than £280 was raised to help with their self-supporting funds.
