The Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Col Edward Bolitho, visited Liskeard to officially open the Joint Service Cadet Centre. Located at Barras Cross, the centre has undergone a major £500,000 refurbishment which was funded by the Reserve Forces Cadet Association. Col Bolitho was welcomed by members of the town’s Army Cadet Force and Royal Air Force Cadets, and guests included representatives of the Cadet Association, senior officers from both cadet units, and parents. The Commanding Officer of 1387 (Liskeard) Squadron, Flt Lt Karla Oliver, who co-ordinated the occasion, said: ‘We were delighted that we were able to be joined by the Lord Lieutenant to mark this important occasion. ‘The refurbishment means that the cadet forces in Liskeard and surrounding areas now have a state-of-the-art building from which they can grow and support their training.’ The cadet forces are open to young people aged 12 in Year 8. The Air Cadets meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the Army Cadets on Tuesdays. Karla said: ‘All young people up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends are welcome to come along on any nights and give it a go.
