A WAKEBOARDING system which was the first of its kind in the South West has been dismantled because it was not making enough money.

The cable wakepark at Siblyback Lake, near Liskeard, was installed at the beginning of 2012, and later in that year, the lake hosted the UK’s first ever clockwise wakeboarding contest.

At the time of its construction, it was hoped the facility would provide a popular alternative to surfing and windsurfing on ‘no wind, no wave days’ as well as encouraging people to take up a new watersport.

But a spokesperson for the South West Lakes Trust (SWLT), which manages Siblyback, said that the wakepark was ‘no longer sustainable’.
