HIDDEN highlights of Liskeard’s history and plans to help the town flourish were part of a networking event last week.

Holiday cottage and guest house owners as well as people involved in the arts and local businesses were led on a tour by museum volunteer Brian Oldham.

Later in the day the group were set to share ideas and put together the ideal itinerary for visitors on a day out around Liskeard.

The event was staged by Cornwall 365, an organisation which brings together cultural and tourism providers for the benefit of both.

The group heard about plans to create a ‘living history’ at Court Cottages in Westbourne Lane before learning of the wealth of activities that take place at the Liskerrett Centre.

Then it was on to the Cattle Market and the medieval Stuart House.

For Faye Edwardes, who owns a holiday cottage at Herodsfoot, the day was a chance to find out more about what the town has to offer.

‘Our guests always want to tell them what to do when they come, and I direct them to the moors and Minions and things,’ she said.

‘I want to be able to give them a day in Liskeard, as a package.’

Chairman of the South East Cornwall Tourism Association (SECTA) Greg Spence told the group about the new destination management plan aimed at driving revenue to existing and new tourism ventures.

‘Cultural days like this are important because they help to focus on what the area has to offer,’ he said.

’Especially in Liskeard, there are lots of hidden things to discover.’
