Kelly Bray residents will have another chance to hear about mining plans in their area during a public meeting today.
Drilling to explore the tin reserves at the Redmoor Mine is set to start in early March. Cornwall Resources Ltd plans to drill 23 holes at depths of up to 460 metres at the former mine workings, which were last active in the 1930s.
Almost all the landowners in the 23 square kilometres over which CRL has rights have now walked around the site to agree the hole locations.
Once this process has been completed, the information will be made public, says Jeff Harrison, who is liaising with the local community on behalf of CRL.
The meeting, staged by Cornwall Resources, will be at 7pm this evening at the Swingletree Inn.
‘Other meetings will be arranged over the next few months to ensure local residents are kept informed of the drilling programme and the results,’ said Mr Harrison.
Callington portreeve Mark Smith said he hoped to organise a meeting in mid-February where mining company representatives and estate agents would be present ‘to answer the hard questions about how house prices might be affected should the project go ahead’.
