FREE parking is being offered in some of the car parks around South East Cornwall today as local traders gear up for the first Saturday of shopping since the national lockdown lifted.
Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, local business leaders and Cornwall Council are encouraging residents to support their town’s high streets and independent businesses and shop local when looking for Christmas gifts.
Covid-secure measures introduced after the first lockdown in the summer are still in place and retailers in South East Cornwall’s towns have gone to great lengths to make sure customers feel both safe and welcome.
The coming weeks represent a chance for retailers to claw back some of the losses of the pandemic that were compounded by the second lockdown.
Cornwall’s placing into Tier One restrictions was great news for the local businesses and community”, says chair of Liskeard Chamber of Commerce Jon Pollard.
“This is also very good news for our many local markets and hospitality businesses in the run-up to Christmas, and whilst we welcome the latest news it should be no grounds for complacency.
“Let’s hope we can now look forward to a near normal run up to Christmas.”
Towns offering free parking in Cornwall Council run car parks today (Saturday Dec 5) are Liskeard and Callington. Looe’s Harbour Commissioners are also offering free parking all day today in the quayside car parks.
