LOOE Town Council wants local businesses to complete a survey on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Martin Gregory said: ‘When the time is right, as we start to think about recovering from COVID-19, we will need the evidence of the impact on our local economy to make our case for help.
‘We are therefore calling on all businesses in Looe to let us know how the pandemic has affected their business in terms of loss of income and on employment. If there is future funding available we want to make sure Looe is able to provide the data to draw down this investment and make the case to Government of our need.’
The survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FVCD2H2.
Cornwall’s Chamber of Commerce has warned that if the lockdown does not lift by June, 40 per cent of the county’s businesses could fail.
CEO Kim Conchie said that the ability for Cornwall to recover is directly linked to how long the current situation lasts. He commented: ‘If this thing isn’t over by the end of May or early June at the very latest, and people can see that we will get some summer season, then 40 per cent of our businesses will fail this year. That will take decades to recover.’
While Mr Conchie said that the grants from Government were welcome and had helped see hospitality and retail businesses through, he also urged the Government to put in further resources and to help businesses plan for how they would recover once restrictions are lifted.
