MEMBERS of Callington and District Twinning Association enjoyed a hint of the highlands recently with a special Burns Night Supper. Organised by Isabelle and Eric Ramage, the supper attracted many guests - several of who came suitably attired in traditional costume. All stood to clap in the haggis, accompanied by piper Ken Shaw and then followed the address to the 'warm reekin' haggis' after which the four-course meal started. After the meal, guest speaker Terry Maze spoke to the Immortal Memory of Robbie Burns, before accordionists Charles Crichton and Ted Clarke got together to provide music for general entertainment and dancing. Ted had played throughout the meal; now it was time for him to up the tempo and let the guests on to the dance floor. Chairman Sue Lumley said: 'The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. 'The food, the atmosphere and the company were all second to none. Roll on Burns' Night 2006.' All proceeds from the evening, amounting to £150 have been donated to the ShelterBox Appeal to help ease the plight of those affected in Southeast Asia. A retiring collection of £50 was also made on behalf of the RNLI, for which cause Ted Clarke works so tirelessly. The proceeds from the forthcoming Twinning Association Quiz Evening, to be held on Saturday, February 26 in Callington Town Hall, will be donated to Aids Orphans. Sue Lumley explained: 'We all know how much help is required following the devastation of the tsunami, but we felt that other equally worthy causes were being sidelined.' Anyone interested in finding out more about all the activities that go on in Callington under the twinning umbrella will be given a warm welcome at their Annual General Meeting which is being held tonight, Friday February 4, at The Church House Inn in Linkinhorne. 'After the business of the AGM we shall be enjoying a meal and a game of skittles together, so anyone interested in what happens between Callington and our French and German twin towns can chat about it informally with committee members,' Sue explained.
