People living in Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula are being urged to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries.

A police spokesperson said: 'Two people are on police bail, one person has been charged, and one suspect is still to be interviewed.

'Scene of Crimes Officers are waiting for numerous forensic results to come back from the laboratory,'

Police officers from Liskeard and Devonport have joined the team to increase night patrols in the area, and residents are being warned that they should keep their properties secure.

'A third of all burglars enter premises through an open door or window.

'Burglaries are often opportunist crimes and properties without security measures in place are 10 times more likely to be burgled than those having additional security,' the spokesperson continued.

'Simple safety measures can easily be put into place, such as fitting window and door locks and security lights.'

Residents are also encouraged to use UV pen to mark all valuable property with their postcode, house number or name. They should then register their goods on www.

'I would rather have a call which turns out to be innocent than no call at all – and it might make a difference,' he said.

A spate of break-ins has also been recorded in the Liskeard area in recent weeks.
