A MAN is still recovering from injuries after being repeatedly kicked in the head by a gang of teenagers. The 20-year-old victim, who did not want to be named, was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth after a group of teenage boys and girls kicked and punched him onto the ground in what an eye witness described as a brutal and cowardly attack. He suffered severe bruising to his head, a broken nose and a black eye from an assault at the top of Pike Street, in Liskeard last Friday evening. 'There was about eight of them and they came over and started beating him up,' said the eye witness. 'He got booted in the head more than once. His face was bleeding everywhere.' There were also unconfirmed reports of a knife being used in the attack, which left the man with a 1cm-deep cut from his bottom lip down to his teeth. Liskeard's acting sergeant Jane Bignall issued a warning to anyone thinking of carrying a weapon. 'Police have the power to search a person if they believe they maybe concealing a bladed weapon,' she said. 'We will not tolerate anybody walking around in our area with a knife or bladed article to cause harm to others – we consider this to be a serious offence.' The victim cannot recall much of the incident, which happened at around 11pm, but has called for police to get tough on those responsible. 'I didn't say anything to them, they just saw me and ran across the road,' he said. 'I would like to see them given ASBOs from the Parade.' Investigate Sgt Bignall confirmed that an officer had been appointed to investigate the incident and enquiries were being carried out. 'We can assure members of the public that anyone drinking and causing problems will be dealt with,' she said. 'Alcohol-related crime will not be tolerated. 'We wish for our community to have a good quality of life and not to be disrupted by a minority who cause problems on a Friday and Saturday night.' Anyone with any information on the attack is asked to contact Liskeard police station.
