Brass bands will open the 92nd West of England Bandsmen’s Festival in the traditional way on Saturday, June 18, when they march through the village of Bugle to the Contest Field. Bands from all over the country and closer to home, including Lostwithiel and Saltash, are among the 23 entrants. Seven bands have entered the Championship Section, where they will compete for The Royal Trophy, presented to the Festival in 1913, by the then Prince of Wales. The present Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, is president of this unique open-air festival of brass band music. Adjudicator Michael Fowles has the challenging task of judging the seven sections, which include the always popular youth and training bands. There will also be an archive exhibition featuring previous festivals, trade stands and the tea tent as part of a full day of entertainment.
