An all action fund-raising expedition is planned by 21-year-old Hannah Waters of Liskeard in a bid to bring in cash for the Children Today charitable trust.

Hannah, of 1 Westwood, Old Road, is to travel to Borneo and trek to the summit of Mount Kinabalu which is 13,000' above sea level. As a participant of The Ultimate Charity Challenge she will then cycle l80 km across Kinabalu national park, go white water rafting in the Padas river, and then scuba diving in the Pacific ocean - all this to take place between March 26 and April 6 this year.

As part of her fund-raising she has organised a fete with arts and crafts, a jumble sale, tombola, raffle, games and refreshments, as well as a Beanie Baby auction. The whole event is to take place at Pelynt village hall from llam until 5pm on February 26, with the auction occurring at 2.30pm.

Hannah, a former Liskeard school pupil, became involved in the project after reading about it in the local Gazette newspaper - a sister paper of The Cornish Times. She said she is not naturally athletic, but has to be spurred on to be so. With The Ultimate Charity Challenge being such a challenge she is now visiting the local sports centre regularly, as well as walking and jogging and attending a weekly yoga class.

Hannah, who needs to raise £2,500, has already extended her thanks to the Cycle Shop, Threshers and Spices Restaurant for donations and support already given.

The funds raised will enable Children Today to purchase vital equipment for youngsters with disabilities in Cornwall. It provides equipment such as electric wheelchairs, walking aids, educational toys, communication aids and lifting equipment, all of which are designed to improve and enhance the lives of the children, helping them to become as independent as possible.
