For their first home match in two months, St Cleer welcomed Division Three opponents St Stephens Res to the Sports Field for this Duchy League Three match.
On a heavy pitch, the home side quickly got in to their stride and began causing the visitors problems from the off. Originally playing against the wind which quickly died down, St Cleer created several half chances without disturbing the scoreboard. Periods of sloppy play from both sides were indispersed with some good one two play, using the space available on the flanks. For one such attack Saints got their noses in front when the ball was crossed in to the box, and after a game of ping pong, Ben Shepherd was on hand to tap the ball home.
Within five minutes the visitors came closest to scoring when a break on the right ended with a shot on target, which Roberts got in the way of, and from the rebound it was cleared. The half proceeded in much the same fashion, before a cross from Harvey was finished by Collins, originally given by the Referee but disallowed after lengthy consolation with his assistant.
A goal up at the break, Saints piled on the pressure in the second half, but considerable possession was not turned in to additional goals, and as the half wore on, frustration started to set in. Three points were eventually won, although with a booking and a dismissal to both sides in what was a hard fought but not dirty game, more questions were posed for the respective managers, than were answered.
