On a wet and foggy Saturday afternoon at Lanreath, conditions were going to be difficult for the two sides. However, both these Premier teams were still able to play attractive football and it was Southgate who opened their account first with a close-range effort.

Lanreath responded well with the midfield feeding the front two players with penetrating through-balls. The persistent pressure of the Lanreath front-men were too much of a handful as it looked like an equalising goal was on the cards. After Jonny Collins was played through, he was brought down just outside the box. His new striking partner Matt Barton was obviously annoyed with the challenge and appealed for the free kick. The referee felt the appeal was extravagant and decided to give the striker his marching orders.

Slightly confused yet undeterred, Lanreath battled on with 10 men, a goal down and still over an hour to play. Nicki Collins was not about to be disheartened as he made a powerful run towards goal and then let loose a thunderous shot to level the scores.

After the break, Lanreath produced one of their best performances of the season in a typical 10 man display. The service from the midfield continued to be sound and Jonny Collins cashed in on this with two goals to secure the win and the points in what proved to be an all-round entertaining performance.
