Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Premier Division
Dobwalls 5
Boscastle 1
For their final match of the season, Dobwalls entertained the Junior Cup holders from the rugged North Cornwall coast. The visitors opened the scoring after a few minutes when their captain Richard Pethick headed home from what appeared to be an offside position.
Martin Nicholls brought the scores level with a long-range shot that found the target. Mark Woodman gave the home side the lead with a rare headed goal from a corner kick. The scores remained the same until the half-time break.
Dobwalls dominated the second half, creating numerous chances. Martin Polatch scored twice to take his tally for the year to 31 and Martin Nicholls added to the score by scoring his 44th of the campaign.
Needing to win by 11 clear goals, Dobwalls have to be content with the runners-up spot this time, losing out to champions Biscovey on goal difference. It is disappointing for the Dobwalls side, who have fallen at the final hurdle, having led the table for most of the season. A combination of a fixture pile-up and unavailability of key players has been their downfall. Although the whole team produced a superb display in their final match, Martin Polatch deservedly received the Man of the Match award for a gutsy display, having only recently had a metal plate inserted into his cheek after a clash of heads left him with a double fracture.
The game was sponsored by Jefferys Estate Agents and the matchball sponsor was Richard 'Dicky' Collins, who is recovering after a heart by-pass operation. The club wishes him a speedy recovery.
