Callington are favourites to progress to the Premier Division Cup final after losing narrowly 2-1 at Boscastle on Saturday but it could have been even better for the visitors had they converted a hatful of chances in the first period before a late surge from Boscastle saw them score two goals.

With first choice 'keeper Wayne Wormold now a regular in the first team, manager Paul Blatchford donned the keeper's jersey for a rare outing but was rarely troubled in the first period as Town pushed the advantage of the slope to lay siege to the Boscastle goal. Chris Truscott, Martin Nicholls and Stuart Taylor, providing a trio of attackers, caused major problems for the home side's defence.

On the left wing, Tony Truscott was the bain of the Boscastle defence although he was lucky not to be carried off on the half hour when he was the victim of a two footed lunge by a home defender which was seen by everyone except the referee.

For all their possession though, all Town had to show for their efforts was a solitary goal from Nicholls who fired home from the left after good approach work mid way through the half.

The second period was a more even contest with the home side causing problems for the Town defence. Callington did have chances to increase their lead early in the second half. Taylor and Nicholls both saw shots go wide and Chris Truscott cleared the bar on more than one occasion before, on the hour, Robin Haddy netted after Blatchford appeared to have been impeded by the Boscastle attackers.

Then, with 10 minutes to go, Paul Safhill let rip with a tremendous looping shot from the right hand corner of the area that powered into the net to give the home side a slender advantage to take to Ginsters Marshfield Parc for the replay on 8th April.
