Lostwithiel found themselves the unfortunate recipients of the rout which Pelynt have been threatening for some time. The first half, although competent enough, acted as a preview to the excitement which was to follow in the second half. Pelynt took the lead through a spectacular James Smith goal which followed a run past three defenders and the goalkeeper.

In customary fashion they allowed the visitors back into the game when slack defending presented an opportunity which Fred Edg, in the Pelynt goal, could do nothing to deny.

The second half started in controversial fashion when the visitors were reduced to 10 men following persistent dissent. Pelynt took full advantage and started to play the sort of football that they know they are capable of.

Their new strike partnership of Ryan Powell and Steve Crumpler gave the visiting defence a torrid time. Powell blasted two quick goals from distance and provided another for Crumpler. A sweet header from Ian Dixon increased the lead before Norman Thomas tapped in within 30 seconds of joining the fray. Fittingly it was Ryan Powell who completed the scoring and a well-deserved hatrick when he raced onto a Cleuga through-ball and beat the keeper from just inside the box.

This result owes much to Pelynt's much-improved team spirit and inspired defending by Johns, Giles, Libby and Hansford. Mention also to the midfield dominance of Hearnden, Dixon, Smith and Wakeham. Pelynt now know that further performances like this are needed if they are to retain their second division status.
