This match ended controversially in the 32nd minute when Pelynt striker Trevor Wisker sustained a broken leg while rounding a St Mawes defender. With the referee seemingly unsure what to do once the Air Ambulance has departed it will be left to the league to decide the tie's outcome.
Prior to this unfortunate curtailment Pelynt had at first continued where they had left off the previous week when they defeated St Mawes in the league before allowing the home side back into the game. It was Robbie Petrie who gave Pelynt the advantage within five minutes when he latched onto a careless back pass and tapped home from close range, this despite the various playing uphill and into a fierce wind.
Indeed, it was a combination of the elements and the visitors poor marking which allowed St Mawes to equalise and then build a two goal lead within 15 minutes. A long range effort which drifted in at the far post was certainly the best of the three St Mawes strikes. With the visitors now looking much more assured they set about limiting St Mawes' first half advantage and began to create chances on the counter attack. It was Wicker who came closest to narrowing the gap after running onto a clever Petrie through ball.
What had started as a lively tussle was by now beginning to resemble a theatre of war with reckless challenges going unpunished by the referee as the home side's frustration appeared to grow. Immediately Wisker was fouled it was clear that his leg was broken and the game was duly stopped to allow him to receive medical attention.
Pelynt FC would like to thank the crew of the Air Ambulance and the staff at Treliske hospital for their care of Trevor whose onfield repartee and goal-scoring ability will be misses by all of his team mates in the coming weeks.
