After a scrappy opening spell of 20 minutes Polyne Garage sponsored Tideford began to exert more pressure and this resulted in an opening goal when Carlos Norville swooped on a loose ball to give Tideford a 1-0 lead.
Carl Hadrill in the Bugle goal kept the lead down when he made an excellent save from a goal bound curling shot from Wayne Kirby. The half time cup of tea bought some relief from what had been a pretty dour first half with very few passing moves from either side.
Straight after the interval Tideford were caught cold when Bugle equalised with a goal from Aiden Jepson. Carlos Norville was brought down in the penalty area when surging forward, and Mark Bates restored Tideford lead from the penalty spot.
An excellent piece of work by Leroy Clark set up Glen Tookey but once again the Bugle keeper was equal to it, and brought off another good save. Tideford were then forced to make a substitution when Leroy Clarke sustained a back injury, which was unfortunate as Leroy has been playing well of late after taking some time to establish himself at this level.
Mark Bates then made it 3-1 for the home team with a hard low shot from a free kick awarded just outside the penalty area. This seemed to spur Bugle on and they reduced the lead with an opportunist header from Carl Brennan. The home goalkeeper Bernie Pearson was then forced to make a double save as Bugle threw everything forward in the last 10 minutes to try and salvage a point, with the result that Tideford were very relieved to hear the final whistle and claim all three points in what was a hard fought game, but by no means a football spectacular.
