Borough retained their impressive results sequence under new manager Karl Meiken and Shaun Omelia with this hard fought win over a battling St Merryn side on Saturday.

In a wind dominated first half Borough played against the conditions and it was no surprise that the home side dominated territorially.

They must have wondered how they didn't score as, at time, the Borough goal led a charmed life.

As it was the only goal of the half in Borough's favour as Omelia, fast gaining a reputation as an ace marksman, finished from close range.

Borough had the better of the second half and extended their lead through Ross Grimwood.

The game seemed safe when Chris Lewis scored a third and there seemed no danger when Kevin Squires showed why he no longer plays up front with a shot that trickled wide of the post.

However an own goal from Scott Maddock gave St Merryn a lifeline and they seemed to be in with a chance when they were awarded what seemed a rather fortunate penalty following what seemed a perfectly fair Omelia challenge.

Keeper Simon Robbins did well to get his hands to the ball but was unable to keep it from going into the net.

However St Merryn hearts were broken when Grimwood broke down the right and crossed for Lewis to glance a header into the far corner of the net to make the score 4-2 for Borough.

There was just time for St Merryn to kick-off before the referee blew the whistle for full time.

This was another battling performance for Borough and they thoroughly deserved to claim the three points. That's now three wins from three games for the new managers and has resurrected the Borough promotion challenge.

It is also worth pointing out that the Borough camp is totally united behind the new managers with former managers Marc Montell and Phil Bennett solidly behind them. Indeed both men have figured in the side Montell playing at Tintagel and Bennett coming on as sub against St Merryn.

If Borough continue playing as they are then they may yet figure in the battle for promotion.
