After last week's draw at Barley, Lanreath increased their unbeaten run to five, with this victory over top of the table Godolphin at Rally Park.
With a howling northerly gale Lanreath's captain opted to play against the wind in the first half and to quite literally weather the storm. This tactic paid dividends, when after a shaky start, Lanreath managed to restrict Godolphin to a two goal advantage at the break.
The second half saw the tables turned on the league leaders, as Lanreath now had the advantage. After many probing runs from Shane Vine, Andy Lewis and Jim Vine it was Nick Peel, who opened Lanreath's account, with a great run and finish. The equaliser soon followed a free kick conceded by a now tiltering Godolphin, resulted in a fierce drive from Peel that the keeper reached but could not repel. Lanreath were now in full charge and with 15 minutes left, a huge clearance from keeper Stepley, was pounced on by Jim Vine, who finished from a tight angle.
Lanreath had many chances, in the closing minutes, but failed to increase their lead. Manager Ron 'Santos' Ramos was delighted with the result, praising his defence of Doe, Raggit, Massey, Facey and keeper Shepley for a good first half performance, and the midfield and forwards for doing the business in the second half.
