In a bad tempered affair visiting Tideford took an early lead when a mistake in the Lanivet defence let in Carlos Norville to open the scoring and put the Polyne Garage sponsored Tideford team in front.
Free kicks were very much in abundance and as a result football was forgotten as players decided the best idea was to wind each other up. The home keeper was brought into action three of four times as Tideford pressed forward with efforts from Carlos Norville and Wayne Kirby. Tideford should have had the game sewn up by half-time, but wasted or failed to convert the 10 or so chances that they created.
It was not long however after the interval when Lanivet equalised through Andy Pennell when a clearance rebounded off a Tideford defender. This seemed to knock all the spirit out of Tideford and their heads went down. A further goal from Dave Britton put Lanivet in front for the first time. Tideford should have been awarded a penalty when a hand ball was missed by the referee who, overall, controlled a very difficult game well. This was followed by an incident when more action and punches were seen than in the recent Tyson fight, with the result that the home team were reduced to 10 men. Even this and three substitutions failed to inspire the visitors and although they did create other scoring opportunities all were squandered. Lanivet showed them what finishing was all about with two further goals from Andy Pennell and Dave Britton.
Chris Phillips the Tideford manager was left speechless and bitterly disappointed at the end of the game which truthfully Tideford could and should have won.
