Pensilva secured their first point of the new year after a battling performance against high flyers St. Columb.

After two previous abysmal performances Mike Swinburne made some significant changes and right from the start his side showed a much greater resilience and spirit. Despite conceding a great deal of possession the defence of Leighton Mitchell, Nigel Hicks and the three Pauls; Firth, Kent and Dunbobbin never buckled while Dave Hicks showed some excellent handling skills in goal. Pensilva also looked threatening on the break and opened the scoring thanks to a wonderful goal by Jamie Page.

The second half began in similar fashion until the controversial award of a penalty to the home side when there appeared to have been no infringement. The spot kick was well converted to level the scores. Soon afterwards Paul Dunbobbin had a glorious chance to regain the lead but was denied by a good save. Late in the game an incident occurred off the ball which led to the two Swinburne brothers; Buster and Bruiser, becoming involved in an altercation with their opponents and soon a number of other players became involved as tempers became frayed. This passed however, and the game ended one each with Pensilva left feeling aggrieved about the penalty decision.
