Taking a three-goal lead from the first leg, Polperro knew they were going to be in for a dog fight against a team that had already beaten them on their ground 5-1 in the league earlier in the season.
Fielding a young and a slightly depleted team they really equipped themselves to the tasks ahead. Minor had to press forward to cut the deficit and this they did. Polperro battled and battled to keep them at bay, and were getting back into the game on breaks, and were unlucky on a number of occasions that they did not go in front. It was on one of these breaks that the speed of 'Juggernaught' Jason Richardson got past a defender on the right, and with a beautiful chip over the goalkeeper, put Polperro one up, and gave them more breathing space. He nearly scored again, but from point blank range the Minor goalkeeper made a brilliant save to keep them in the game. A penalty given away by Bob Chapman let St Columb back in. Although Paul Hudson got a leg to the shot, St Columb levelled the scored, and the score stayed the same at half-time.
The second half started evenly but it wasn't long before St Columb started to get the upper hand. St Columb went 2-1 ahead when the Polperro defence were caught napping. It looked then that the game was going to go St Columb's way, but back came Polperro, and Richardson, who broke loose to round the goalkeeper to put Polperro back on level terms, 2-2.
This rattled St Columb, and although they tried to get back at the Polperro defence, they could not break them down. Following a failed offside trap, Ryan Tedder got the ball just inside the St Columb half and ran unchallenged to round the Minor goalkeeper and put the game Polperro's way at 3-2.
This puts Polperro into the final against either Mevagissey or St Teath on a date yet to be arranged, and at a venue to be announced. Special mention goes to Richard Chapman who played his heart out in midfield and defence, and midfield players Aarron Spy and David Gilbert, who both battled away in the heart of the area, and the rest of the team for their effort to get Polperro to another cup final.
