Dobwalls.......................................10
MevagisseY.................................... 1
AFTER last weeks disappointing reverse in the Junior Cup, Dobwalls returned to Premier league action in a determined frame of mind and duly punished a poor Mevagissey outfit.
Within minutes of kick off Rob Cole opened the scoring after Andy Sheer drew the keeper and unselfishly squared the ball to his unmarked Captain. Sheer scored two goals in as many minutes to extend the lead and with further goals from Cole and Scott Brown, who scored his first for the club, the home side lead 5-0 at the half time interval.
The second half proved to be as one sided as the first, within five minutes of the restart Rob Cole completed his hat-trick and was then substituted. Johnny Niblett made it seven with a well taken goal and debutante Francis Cater scored what was the goal of the match shortly after. He picked up the ball near the halfway line and his pinpoint pass put Andy Sheer away down the left, when the ball was crossed into the box Cater was on hand to head home past the stranded keeper.
Sheer scored a further two goals inside the last ten minutes to seal the result to complete his first hatrick for the club.
Mevagissey scored a consolation goal through Rundle near the end. The result was very pleasing as a couple of regulars sat out the game to allow some of the younger members of the squad a chance which paid dividends with Gerry Richards impressing on his full debut and Daniel Skews showed some good touches.
Stalwart Gordon Moxham received the Man of the Match award for an inspirational game at the back.
Boscastle........................................2
Callington....................................0
CALLINGTON started at a blistering pace, as early as the first minute Kinger found himself unmarked 14 yards out but his header went wide, then shortly after Bradley 18 yards with only the keeper to beat shot wide of the target.
From that point Boscastle woke up and started to create chances of their own, with Ovens going the closest for the home side until a Pethick shot which was going at least 10 yards wide deflected off Payne into the back of the Callington net to put the home side in front.
Both sides continued to press in the first period but never created anything in the last third.
The second half saw Callington take most of this game to Boscastle, but again they failed to take their chances. Rowland had his shot saved from eight yards. Taylor had a half chance that went wide.
With time now running out and constant pressure Callington were caught on the break, following a long ball deep in their own half. Bicknell ran on to it to slot the ball past Rowlings in the Town goal. Manager Paul Blatchford said "I can't remember the last time we lost two games on the bounce, it's something I must put right starting tomorrow away to Lanreath."
Lanreath ........................................1
Newmoor.........................................2
LANREATH'S consistence was their downfall in this bottom of the table clash although they did have most of the play.
Lanreath started well pushing the ball around but couldn't find the final ball to punish Newmoor. Twenty minutes into the first half and Newmoor's second real attack they crossed the ball from the right which went over the advancing keeper into the path of Ian Morton for the first goal.
Lanreath continued to push forward and had chances but couldn't find the net until two minutes from half time when they got a free kick just outside the box. John Harris passed the ball to Justin Dudley who chipped the ball over the stranded keeper.
Three minutes into the second half Newmoor had a free kick just outside the box. From the kick a rare mistake from Jim Moynan headed the ball towards his own goal and keeper Francis Vine couldn't hold it and pushed the ball onto the post which rebounded to Morton for his second easy goal.
From then on Lanreath had all the attacking football but some desperate and good goalkeeping kept Lanreath at bay.
Lanreath's closest chance came five minutes from time when Dave Swift had a shot which hit the crossbar and came down on the line and bounced out to a Newmoor defender to clear.
Division Two
Pelynt...............................................1
Camelford.....................................1
PELYNT went into this game with confidence high following victories in the previous two matches. This confidence showed in the early exchanges with numerous chances being spurned by Phil Hearnden and Nick Bailey in the home attack.
Pelynt's midfield of Dixon, Doidge, Pete Bailey and Whitling dominated the first half whilst the defence of Boxall, Johns, Libby and Charman kept the Camelford attack at bay. Ede, in the Pelynt goal, was equal to all that was thrown at him.
Despite this it was the visitors who took the initiative early in the second half when a quick break was followed by a well taken goal. Pelynt fought back valiantly and chances from Dixon, Bailey, Doidge and Hearnden all came close. With ten minutes left Pelynt pushed men forward in search of a goal and it was substitute Steve Crumpler who, with support from fellow substitute Mike Rickard, found Hearnden who turned smartly and hit the net with a low shot.
Pelynt, whilst grateful for their point, will know that all three were there for the taking.
Queens ..............................................0
St Cleer...........................................0
ONCE again this was a case of a lot of good work ruined by a playing surface not conducive to good football leading to further frustration, as Saints meandered to a 0-0 draw against a Queens determined not to have a repeat of the thrashing they got when playing the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
What promised so much at the start fizzled out with the nearest either side got to actually putting the ball in the net was when Queens beat Roberts in the visitors goal only for Wall to head off the line. Otherwise most of the play came to an abrupt end within the last third as the pitch took its toll. Neither keeper was overworked on the day with Saints on top for large periods with the stubborn Queens team working hard and being content to allow the visitors plenty of possession. An easily forgettable match.
Division One
St Mawes..........................................1
Gunnislake....................................3
THE home side started the better and came close to opening the scoring on 10 minutes. From a corner a goalbound header was cleared off the line by How Pulley. Shortly afterwards St Mawes too the lead with a well taken finish.
As the first half progressed Gunnislake became stronger and by the interval had established a one goal lead thanks to two good strikes. Paul Tomkies and Andy Waken the man on target.
A Pulley corner on 47 minutes was headed goalwards by Andy Southcott, the St Mawes keeper kept this out but following a Wayne Thialmann assist Tomkies scored his second from close range.
For the most part of the second half the home side pressed in an attempt to get back into this match. With the pressure St Mawes were applying Gunnislake sacrificed a centre forward to play with five men in midfield, Andy Campbell making a welcome return.
In spite of much pressure no further goals were scored and Gunnislake claimed a hard earned three points.
This Saturday Probus provide the opposition for Gunnislake for a knock out cup first round tie.
Pensilva......................................7
St Newlyn East ......................1
IT'S Official - Pensilva's league campaign is back on track. After their previous controversial league defeat against Polperro, morale in an unimpressive season seemed low. However, on Saturday Pensilva demolished St Newlyn in emphatic style to keep a promotion charge back on course.
It was the visitors who took the lead after 20 minutes and it seemed a familiar tale for Pensilva, who in the last four meetings had filed to record a victory against them.
A first half come back with strikes from Nigel Hicks, a brace from Colin Wilson and Darren Worden, made the score at the interval 4-1.
Deflated St Newlyn pressed, but largely untroubled Pensilva, and the second half only bought goals from the home team. Worden grabbed another, and Jonny Firth crashed in two further well worked goals to complete the rout.
Polperro.........................................3
Menheniot.....................................2
THIS top of the table clash always looked to be a good match on paper and so proved to be with both teams working hard straight from the start. On a bright but very blustery day it was the home side who settled first with early chances created for both Kevin Faulkner and Jason Richardson, but after 20 minutes it was Menheniot who opened the scoring when a cross from the left was flicked in to put the visitors 1-0 up.
Right from the re-start Polperro pushed forwards but found it difficult to penetrate a resolute Menheniot defence, but eventually the breakthrough came when some great interplay between Kevin Faulkner and Jason Richardson down the right saw Kevin Faulkner's hard, low cross steered home by midfielder Phil Bane.
With the score 1-1 at half-time it came as no surprise that these two evenly matched teams produced a second half performance to match the first and 15 minutes into the half Polperro took the lead when a goalbound shot struck a defender's arm, and as the ball spun into the air it was midfielder Andy Garner who reacted quickest to stab the ball home.
Menheniot responded straight from the whistle but were thwarted by some solid defending and sound goalkeeping from Barry Collings in the Polperro goal but eventually got their just rewards when a free kick from the right was headed powerfully home to bring the scores level at 2-2. With both teams pushing hard for the lead it was Polperro who saved the best till last with a five man move down the right which ended at the feed of Andy Garner who calmly slotted the ball home from 12 yards out to give Polperro a hard earned 3-2 victory. Full credit must be given to a hard working and sporting Menheniot side who played their part in an excellent game of football that was very well controlled by referee Mr Peter Sowden.
Man of the Match - Phil Bane and Andy Garner.
Division Four (East)
Hat trick for Farris
St Giles ............................................0
Callington Res.........................4
CALLINGTON deservedly won this top of the table clash and the victory took Callington above St Giles into second place.
Callington's all round game was just too much for St Giles, who had no answer to Callington's ability to retain possession and restrict St Giles to only the odd chance. Whereas Callington's forwards were getting into some great shooting positions but then let themselves down with poor finishing with both Farris and Blatchford guilty of missing the target when well placed. St Giles huffed and puffed but Darren Wooley was in commanding form and Craig Linley also making sure that no silly mistakes would give St Giles an incentive to get something from this game.
Farris got Callington's first goal by closing down the St Giles keeper and in the confusion the ball evaded the defence and trickled over the line, in stark contrast to Lee Rider's effort, when he mesmorised the St Giles defence with a quality run with close control leaving, four defenders wondering where he went and finishing with a fierce drive that just cleared the cross bar.
Into the second half and playing up the slope seemed to suit Callington more and with Thorpe again outstanding in midfield and Rider holding the game together with clever little touches and Matt Reid battling for everything and James Crawford at wing back really settling in well in his first season.
Farris scored his second and Ben Smith from the left with a shot squeezed just inside the near post. Callington saved the best goal of all until the fourth when Crawford started a move from inside Callingtons half and with three more players involved in a sweeping move which ended with Andy Shorten out pacing the St Giles defence down the right wing and from a perfect centre. Dominic Farris headed his third and completed Callington's domination.
North Hill...................................5
Polperro Res..............................1
THIS was a match North Hill had to win to stay in contention with run away leaders, Polperro Reserves. This they did in grand style with Richard Robson, Gareth Smith and back to form Martin Bloomfield winning everything in the air.
The home side took the lead in the eleventh minute through Adrian Parsons from a superb Phil Lucas cross. Lucas then added a second with Parsons making it three going through on his own from a positive Pocock pass to make it 3-0 at half time.
Parsons scored again early in the second half making his hat-trick for the day. On the seventy fifth minute Peter George made it a nap-hand scoring the North Hill fifth with Matt King getting a late consolation goal for Polperro. defence with goalkeeper Shane Eastley having an outstanding game.
