Birthday honours in SE Cornwall
Four people from South East Cornwall were among those in the westcountry whose names appeared in the Queen's Birthday Honours List on Saturday.
The Rev John Harvey, from West Looe, aged 93, was awarded an MBE for services to Truro Cathedral. Since his retirement in 1970, he has been using his woodworking skills to make furniture for Truro Cathedral where he has produced all but three of the church's bosses. He has also made items for St Nicholas Church in Looe.
David Mutch of Kingsand, who works as a production manager at Devonport Management Ltd was awarded an MBE for services to the defence industry.
In the military list, Warrant Officer Steward Gary Slater of Saltash received an MBE for his organisations skills in arranging high-profile events and his support to staff through training. He is currently serving aboard HMS Invincible, which has, this year, seen action in the Gulf and the Balkans.
Major Adrian Battley of Torpoint, serving in the Army with the Royal Logistic Corps, also received a military MBE.
Other high profile names from Cornwall who feature in the list include Michael Galsworthy. who becomes a CBE. He is a former High Sheriff of Cornwall and ex-chairman of In Pursuit of Excellence, which aims to promote the best in Cornish business. He also chaired the Cornwall Hospitals Trust, the Bishop of Truro's Forum, the Cornwall Playing Fields Association and the Rural Housing Association.
