An attempt to prevent any parliamentary constituencies straddling Cornwall and Devon has failed in the House of Lords.

Peers voted by 250 to 221, Government majority of 29, to back the position of ministers that Cornwall should not be exempted from provisions aimed at equalising the size of constituencies.
