Cornwall Juniors have qualified for the EGU County Boys Finals following their one-shot victory over nearest rivals Somerset at the SW Boys Championships, held at Hamptworth Golf Club in Wiltshire.

With the format being the best five out of six scores to count in both the morning and afternoon rounds, Cornwall held a slender one-shot lead after the first round and maintained that to the end.

Former SW Boys' Champion Ben Enoch and defending SW Boys' Champion Billy Downing narrowly missed out on the individual championship, finishing second and third on 141 and 142 respectively. However, consolation for Ben was that he set an amateur course record in the afternoon with a sizzling 67.

The individual SW Boys' Champion was Matt Kippen from Somerset, managing back-to-back rounds of 69 for a 138 total.

Cornwall will now go forward to represent the SW at the finals, which this year are being held at Royal North Devon Golf Course from September 1-3.

They will play the other three regional qualifiers on a round-robin basis to decide the national title.

Final team standings: Cornwall (734), Somerset (735), Wiltshire (739), Devon (740), Gloucestershire (743), Dorset (744).
