ON Bank Holiday Monday I took a stroll along the Looe sea

front in the sunshine.

It was a glorious day, and after the shocking weather we

have had, it was nice to be out.

However, the beach was in a shocking state. There were

great big piles of seaweed in the middle of the beach and

seaweed was all along the sand in a great long line.

There were piles of sand and cigarettes butts everywhere

on the slabs and there were flies in abundance.

This is not the first time this year I have seen the beach in

this state and, I know the weather has been bad, but

surely the beach is a priority during the summer when our

main income is from the tourists who sit upon it.

I saw parents clearing a path in the seaweed for their

children to go to the sea and I am sure it was not a

pleasant job as I could smell the seaweed from the top of

the slabs.

A few years ago when my children were small, a

gentleman would brush off the slabs in the morning and

the tractor was used to clear the seaweed every day. Is

this not happening anymore?

I thought the tractor was bought to clear the seaweed,

can't seaweed be sold to the farmers? Or even given away!

I will not be taking my family to sit on Looe beach again

this year, lets hope that the holiday makers don't think

the same.
