Emily Stevenson, the founder of Beach Guardian in Cornwall and a Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes Ambassador, is one of five Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes to receive a Points of Light award from the Prime Minister for her inspirational voluntary work.
The Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers - people who are making a change in their community. Emily’s Beach Guardian initiative has inspired hundreds of people to join beach clean-ups across Cornwall.
In a personal letter to Emily, Prime Minister Theresa May said: ‘Your passion for marine biology has inspired hundreds of people to support ’Beach Guardian’, helping with beach clean-ups across Cornwall and changing attitudes to plastics and non-recyclable crisp packets.’
